Next month J and I are going to WASHINGTON DC! I have never been before and as you can tell, I'm stoked! The in-laws used some frequent flyer miles and got us all plane tickets out there. So yes, the WHOLE family is going. (even the new little baby, yay) I am a museum kinda girl. I traveled around Europe for a month and basically went to a museum every single day- heaven. I loved every second of it. Most people find them boring but I find the quietness of them amazing. It gives you time to think and reflect about each work of art. Okay nerd alert. That's enough. So in Washington DC I am dying to go to the Smithsonian, the Holocaust Museum and Museum of Natural History. I'm sure there are a bajillion other good ones out there but we don't have a ton of time yano?

Are there any other things we MUST do while we are out there? I know it will be brutally hot and I am already freaking out about what I am going to wear haha. I need shorts!

Lately, I've been obsessed with summer salads. I want to recreate every single salad I find on pinterest. They look amazing and so delicious.

  5. DC is an amazing city, one of my faves. There is so much to do that you will be overwhelmed at the choices. So much history! Try to make it to Georgetown too for a wander around if you get the opportunity. {And yes, the summer is incredibly HOT so prep yourself for that.} Have a great trip!

  7. I've been to the DC airport and stepped outside and it was awesome. Just kidding. But I want to go SO bad. I'm a history nerd, too, and my cousin was just telling me all about her trip and all the cool places she went and all the history she saw and I just about hopped on a plane right then and there. You'll have so much fun, even with the heat and humidity, and I cannot wait to hear all about it!

  11. you will LOVE DC, I went last year and am going next year. We pretty much did everything, we jam packed everything in, but my advice would be to NOT walk the Monuments at the Mall, and walk the Arlington cemetery in the same day... trust me, it's way too much walking!

Mmmmm other than that MUST SEES are of course the Smithsonian, The Zoo, the Lincoln, all that good stuff.... and make sure to go to the HIRSCHHORN (it was probably one of my favorites)

  16. haha you are too cute! im from right outside DC!! you'll LOVE the museums...and they're all free! (in case you didn't know)...i live in boston now and i love it, but the museums are a lot of money :( ....sadness....

my suggestions, go to georgetown cupcake and eat at bread line! Breadline is great for 3 reasons: 1. it's cheap. 2. It's fast AND delicious and 3. it's a Nat Geo pick...so of course it's awesome. The address is here:

    http://travel.nationalgeographic.com/travel/city-guides/washington-dc-restaurants/

(if you ask around most people don't know where it is and they think you're asking for the "Red line" which is the metro haha gotta find it on your own but its sooooo worth it!!)

i hope you have fun!!! i'm now you're follower so i expect to read all about your visit teehee :)

  26. I'm right with you on being a museum girl! I didn't even know they had a Museum of Natural History in DC. The one in NYC is amazing and I try to go as often as possible!

  29. Yay for DC! I live in the District, you're going to have so much fun! The must sees: Natural History, the Capitol, and the Zoo.

If you have enough time, call your Congressman/Senator and request a tour of the Capitol. It's free, and you won't have to be in one of those huge tour groups. You'll get a small group tour led by some bright eyed intern.

Someone else said it, but don't try to walk all the monuments and Arlington in one day. If you want to see all the monuments, you may consider one of those bus tours. You'll end up walking many many miles without it. Or just pick and choose the ones you want to see. My favorite it FDR, becuase it's so far out, people forget about it, but it has cool water features.

Make sure to walk around Georgeotwn. The line at Georgetown Cupcake is insane now that they have a TV show. Their cupcakes are fine, but do not warrant $4 and a 40 minute wait. Do as the locals do, and go to Baked and Wired (also in Georgetown).

Wear sunscreen, bring water, and have so much fun!
